There is this phone which costs #47,000 I wanted to buy but have no money. I then borrowed #25,000 each from 2 of my friends, Dick and Harry.
*I paid for the phone @ #47,000
*I collected a balance of #3,000
*I balanced Dick & Harry #1,000 each and keeping #1,000 to myself. Therefore, am owing Dick, #24,000, Harry, #24,000
*I summed up my total debt which is 24,000 + 24,000 = 48,000
*I now added the 1,000 I kept to myself and it became 49,000.
*WHERE IS THE REMAINING 1,000?
*ABEG, HELP ME FIND MY #1,000

Thanks,my dear.Since the total amount that you borrowed was an even number and the amount you bought the phone was an odd number, means that by paying each of them N1000 from the change and keeping N1000 to your self makes you a debtor of extra N2000.The break down is as follows: ln buying the phone for N47000 from the N50000 you borrowed shows that i.e. From Larry's N25000,you used N23,000 and from Dick's N25000,you used N24000 making it N47000.Now in your wisdom, you will give N2000 to Larry and N1000 to Dick from the extra N3000 to fully pay them back. But your payment of N1000 each as you stated, is an assumption within your mind because you cannot borrow N25000 from some one and later give him/her N1000 first to balance N24000.The statement that you gave each N1000 from the change is a 'correct logic' and you are duly right. From home,do this my arithmetic and go and pay them fully.

Agms, tnx 4 d analysis but a
I can't understand why I should pay extra 1, 000 from the principal amount I borrowed.

Dat #1000 is with d person u bought d phone 4rm. coz #47,000 of d phone u paid for + #3000 change he gave to u make it #50,000

My dear, since the phone is N47000 an odd number, means that you cannot take the same amount from both N25000 that you borrowed. You are wrong in your arithmetic because since you used N47000
out of the N50000
and you got N3000
change, means that you took N24000 from one person's money and N23000 from the other person's money to buy the phone.By giving N1000 each to them means that you have settled the one whom you used his N24000. You are to balance the one whom you used his N23000 with the N1000 with you because you have already given him N1000 before. So he has to be fully settled and you would not have an extra N1000
on you.QED
