-Ensure the regular collection of any mail, its sorting, franking and distribution as appropriate, and to liaise with County Hall/Post Office for its collection and other post services.
To provide a reception service including receiving visitors, responding to inquiries, taking messages, redirecting phone calls and maintaining the reception area as necessary.

-Receive electronic mail e.g. faxes and e-mails, and redirect as appropriate.

-Undertake general administrative duties e.g. photocopying, filing, data input and retrieval as required.

-Undertake overflow text processing as required.

-Achieve all text processing work and to follow up appropriate back-up procedures as specified.

-Maintain a familiarity with the operation of the text processing and typing devices and all other peripheral devices

-Undertake the collation, input and retrieval of statistical, contractual or financial information as necessary to carry out designated responsibilities.

To provide reports and returns as required by senior officers within the service.

-To submit recommendations on new and revised systems and procedures for the specified areas of responsibility and support their implementation.

-To liaise with appropriate departmental staff in matters relating to the designated areas of responsibility to ensure a co-ordinated and standard service.

-To provide appropriate support to advisory service staff, attachments and other colleagues in related specialisms as they arise.

-To contribute to the development and training of colleagues.

-To adhere to existing working practices, methods, procedures, undertake relevant training and development activities and to respond positively to new and alternative systems.

-It will be necessary to work with information technology and associated systems in accordance with County Council policies.

-To co-operate with the council in complying with relevant health and safety legislation, policies and procedures in the performance of the duties of the post.

-To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post in compliance with the County Council's equal opportunities policies.

-To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate.

-To understand and comply with the County Council's environmental policies.

-To carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities within the overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibilities of the post.
